ADAS can be found in most modern vehicles, and the question everyone wants to know is what is it and how does this affect my windscreen replacement?
In short, some ADAS cameras & radars are attached to the windscreen and when a replacement is carried out an ADAS calibration is required to ensure everything is working as it is intended to do so from factory to avoid any faults from occurring.
There are 2 types of ADAS calibrations, Dynamic Calibration and Static Calibration. A Dynamic Calibration involves the technician plugging the vehicle in to specialist ADAS diagnostic equipment driving the vehicle on road at specific speeds, distance and conditions to allow the camera to complete its calibration process.
A Static Calibration involves the vehicle being aligned to a specialist panel whilst the vehicle is stationary. This method can only be carried out in a workshop environment, it cannot be carried out roadside/ in an outside environment as the working conditions must be precise to receive a successful result.
The type of calibration required is dependent on the make and model of the vehicle. Most vehicles will only use one method of calibration.
